Majuli River Island, Assam
Majuli River Island, Assam “Majuli” India’s largest river island and world heritage site. It is situated in the upper reaches of the river Brahmaputra in Assam. Total area of land in majuli is 421.65 square kilometers (163 sq mi) in 2001 census. The island is formed by the Brahmaputra river in south and the Kherkutia Xuti, an anabranch of the Brahmaputra, joined by the Subansiri River in the north. Majuli is famous for its vibrant culture and Satras .Some of the prominent Satras are---- (A) Auniati Satra Founded by Niranjan Pathakdeva, the Satra is famous for "Paalnaam" and Apsara dances.
